During menstruation, our bodies shed the lining of the uterus, signaling the start of the cycle. In the next phase, the body prepares for a potential pregnancy by producing estrogen, which helps the uterus lining grow again.
Around the middle of the cycle, ovulation occurs. This is when an egg is released from the ovary, waiting for a sperm to fertilize it. After ovulation, the body produces progesterone, which supports the uterus lining and a possible pregnancy. If pregnancy doesn’t happen, the cycle starts again with menstruation.
